We could all be more active, especially our kids! Did you know that kids who regularly participate in physical activity have higher cognitive performance and overall brain function1?
We’ve all heard of the many benefits of physical activity: it strengthens your heart, helps cope with stress, controls your weight, etc. However, it also can be a great intervention to help kids who are attentive or hyperactive!
If we’re going to get fancy, physical activity specifically improves executive controls. This includes inhibition (resisting distractions and staying focused), memory, and cognitive flexibility (changing between tasks)1. The impact physical activity can have on kids, especially with ADHD, can be enormous.
Programs like In The Mix encourage movement and activity to help them get through the school day. Get your kids doing something active everyday, find a fun program to get them moving!
